The Surgeon General now recommends social media having a warning label to combat what he called an emergency mental health crisis amongst youth.
No surprise there.
Instead of simply saying “it needs a warning label,” GO INTO DETAIL ABOUT WHAT ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA MAKES AND CREATES THE NEED FOR HAVING THE WARNING LABEL.
If you don’t go into detail—if WE don’t go into detail and start talking about what’s going on on our insides that’s tearing us all apart—you’re repeating the pattern that caused the surgeon general to make the announcement in the first place, but not call for going into the inner detail—THE FACT THAT THE SURGEON GENERAL DIDN’T GO INTO CALLING FOR THE INNER DETAIL.
The unhealthy pattern is the ignoring of the stuff on the insides. The proof is the Surgeon General’s call for help to address youth’s mental health.
There it is—right there. Mental health is maintained on the inside, not the outside. It’s addressed upstream—not downstream. The current culture has it really, REALLY wrong.
It’s circular, it’s recursive, it’s convoluted, it’s complicated, and it’s tedious, but it’s precisely the cancer that is the problem that we’re all experiencing that’s really, really hard to see and really, really hard to understand.
Please—for the benefit of all the kids and all the generations that will be alive long after we’re all gone—read this over until you really understand it.
Respectfully submitted.
