Long and complicated to explain and work through, but once it’s understood, it becomes immediately clear why narratives fail, why labeling fails, why creating a title for a collection of things is unclear until its composition is purposely stated and confirmed.
- Twelve observers observing a dog’s behavior will see the same behavior. They will agree on the same behavior having been done by the dog.
- However, the same twelve observers explaining “Why the dog did what it did” will typically create twelve different narratives; twelve different opinions. At most only one of them can be correct, and statistically, all of them are wrong.
- Each of the twelve observers further believes that all eleven remaining observers share his opinion and common narrative, share his opinion and common title, and share his opinion and his explanation of the dog’s behavior. What’s actually happening is that there are twelve hidden, unspoken, unexamined disconnects which nobody talks about. There are eleven disconnects from each observer’s opinions and explanations, and not a soul will talk about it.
